The story

Since the time of the Order of Saint Clare in 1330, the Poor Clares began creating sweets in Portuguese convents as a means of sustenance. Using simple ingredients such as eggs, sugar, and almonds, they transformed their scarce resources into true culinary masterpieces. Later, these sweets were made for special occasions and quickly gained fame beyond the convents.
The recipes were passed down from generation to generation, remaining authentic and faithful to tradition and flavour. "Lérias" honour this heritage as the quintessential convent sweet of Amarante. Founded in 1930, the old Confectionery House of Lérias in Amarante, under the management of the visionary Alcino dos Reis, has become an iconic symbol in the city to this day.
